Description:
The Métis School Food Program Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of school food initiatives that support Métis children, families, and communities. The role involves engaging with various stakeholders such as Métis families, community organizations, schools, and government partners. The coordinator will focus on strengthening food security programs and advocating for sustainable funding, while ensuring Métis traditions and values are integrated into school meal programs.
This role is ideal for someone with project management experience, community engagement expertise, and a deep understanding of Métis culture and food sovereignty. The position is key in advocating for sustainable school food programs that benefit Métis communities.
Core Competencies:
Strong project management skills, including planning, executing, and evaluating programs
Expertise in advocacy and policy development related to Indigenous food security
Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including Métis families and government partners
Ability to secure funding and partnerships to sustain long-term program success
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications:
Diploma in Nutrition, Indigenous Studies, Public Health, or a related field
Minimum 3 years of experience in program coordination, community engagement, policy development, or food security, preferably within Indigenous communities
Strong understanding of Métis culture, traditions, and food systems
Experience working with government funding agreements and policy frameworks is an asset
Ability to travel within the province for program site visits and engagement sessions
A Class 5 driver’s license may be required
The position may require the completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
