Power Engineer Trainee

 

Description:

Cenovus Energy offers a structured New Graduate Program designed to attract, develop, and retain top talent in Power Engineering. This program provides new graduates with broad exposure to Cenovus’s core business through three consecutive 12-month rotational assignments across various operational areas. Upon successful completion, graduates will be matched to a permanent role based on business needs, with potential relocation.

The role is based in Lloydminster, AB/SK with shifts including a 7-days-on/7-days-off 12-hour rotating shift schedule at the Lloydminster Thermal site, and variable rotational shifts at the Lloydminster Upgrader. Candidates must live nearby or be willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate facility equipment safely and effectively as part of the operations team

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize area-specific equipment performance

  • Conduct condition monitoring through sampling, testing, and maintaining operations records (volume balances, log sheets, permits, reports)

  • Support maintenance activities in line with operating philosophy and communicate requirements to on-site contractors

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) policies

Candidate Profile:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Available to start in September 2025

  • Diploma in Power Engineering obtained by May 31, 2025 (graduates from 2023–2025 eligible)

  • Minimum 3rd class power engineering certificate or completion of provincial exams with expectation to acquire certificate within 6 months post-graduation

  • Willingness to relocate for rotations and permanent placement

  • Valid Canadian Class 5 Driver’s License (non-GDL) with no restrictions

  • Willingness to comply with PPE use and pass pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol tests
