Description:
UNSW, a leading research and teaching university in Australia, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Chemistry to contribute to an ARC-funded Discovery Project focused on synthesising and characterising novel organic and organometallic molecular wires. The role involves advanced organic and organometallic syntheses, analytical characterisation, and exploring chemical design principles that control electronic delocalization in molecular wires.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct research in organometallic and organic chemistry, focusing on molecular electronics.
Perform and supervise chemical syntheses using air-free techniques such as gloveboxes and Schlenk lines.
Characterise synthetic products and study their properties using analytical methods.
Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and document experimental results.
Contribute to scientific papers, reports, and research proposals; collaborate with industry partners where appropriate.
Assist in laboratory coordination, supervision of PhD and Honours students, and achieving project milestones.
Present results at national and international conferences and workshops.
Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and UNSW code of conduct.
Key Skills and Abilities:
Expertise in organometallic chemistry and air-free synthesis techniques.
Proficiency in NMR spectroscopy.
Experience with pi-conjugated molecules, density functional theory, spectroelectrochemistry, and vibrational spectroscopy is desirable.
Ability to conduct independent, high-quality research and maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field.
Excellent teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proven track record of publications and conference presentations.
Qualifications:
PhD or equivalent in inorganic or organic chemistry.
Previous research experience in academic or related environments.
Experience supervising or mentoring PhD/Honours students is an advantage.
