Description:
CBC/Radio-Canada is seeking a Producer – News Programming to join its English Services team based in Iqaluit, Nunavut. This is a full-time, on-site, permanent role, ideal for a creative and experienced journalistic leader passionate about storytelling that reflects Canada’s diverse communities, particularly the Inuit of Nunavut Nunangat.
The selected candidate will lead the editorial direction and support for CBC North’s TV and radio programming. You’ll be assigning and developing content from reporters in Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet, and Yellowknife, while balancing breaking news coverage with the planning and production of in-depth and investigative stories. This role is instrumental in strengthening the station’s English and Inuktitut programming with a deep focus on editorial integrity and audience relevance.
You will work closely with producers, hosts, and journalists, offering feedback, vetting scripts, and managing the overall story development process. With a focus on innovation, cultural awareness, and audience engagement, you will champion new approaches to storytelling and lead with empathy, inclusion, and journalistic excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead editorial planning and content development for TV and radio programs and the streaming channel
Assign and vet news content from multiple regional locations
Provide editorial guidance to team members and support story pitching and scripting
Oversee the creation of content for broadcast, digital, and social platforms
Coordinate with other producers and departments for resource allocation and show direction
Mentor and coach journalists, helping them grow professionally
Guide programming toward inclusive and culturally respectful storytelling, particularly for Inuktitut-speaking audiences
Maintain high standards of journalism ethics, fact-checking, and legal awareness
Manage daily journalistic output and help plan long-term programming goals
Ensure the tone, pace, and visuals of programming align with CBC’s editorial values
Communicate across teams, adapt to change, and support staff development
Maintain a calm, solution-oriented approach in high-pressure environments
Qualifications:
University or college degree in journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in journalism, with proven editorial leadership
Strong background in video story development, digital-first strategies, and script vetting
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Demonstrated understanding of Inuit communities and northern Canadian contexts
Experience mentoring and leading journalistic teams
Knowledge of social media and storytelling on digital platforms
Ability to reimagine news presentation and content structure
Creativity, curiosity, and commitment to high-quality journalism
Understanding of CBC’s journalistic standards and editorial guidelines
Ability to work overtime and meet tight deadlines
Fluency in Inuktitut is considered a strong asset
