Music Therapist

 

Description:

Tamara’s Piano Studio and Music Therapy Services (TPSMTS), a private pediatric-focused and neurodiversity-affirming practice, is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and flexible Independent Contractor Music Therapist to join its growing team. The practice specializes in 1:1 adapted music lessons and music therapy for children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of developmental and neurological profiles. Services are delivered at the Thornhill studio as well as in clients’ homes throughout York Region and the GTA.

The position begins September 2025, with training scheduled for July and August 2025. Saturday availability is required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality 1:1 music therapy sessions and adapted music lessons

  • Tailor a flexible, eclectic, and strengths-based approach for each client’s needs

  • Travel to both in-studio and in-home client sessions

  • Maintain accurate and timely progress notes reviewed weekly by the Director

  • Be available for coverage and on-call needs

  • Collaborate with families, fellow staff, and the Director to support client growth

  • Participate in team events, meetings, and client consultations

  • Assist clients in preparing for year-end recitals and events

  • Commit to ongoing learning and contribution to a collaborative team environment

  • Handle other tasks and duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music Therapy (including 1000-hour internship)

  • Certified Music Therapist (MTA) in good standing

  • Member of the Canadian Association for Music Therapy (CAMT) and the Music Therapy Association of Ontario (MTAO)

  • Strong clinical and interpersonal communication skills

  • Proven experience teaching music (especially piano, voice, guitar)

  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations

  • Available for travel within York Region and the GTA


Preferred Assets (Not Mandatory):

  • RCM Grade 8 piano or equivalent in another instrument

  • Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) training

  • CRPO (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario) membership or eligibility

  • First Aid & CPR-C certification

  • Valid G-Class driver’s license and personal vehicle access
