Metal Picker

Description:

Orion Steel, in partnership with Genalta Recycling Inc., is seeking motivated and hardworking individuals to join their team as Metal Pickers in Edmonton, AB. This role is essential to ensuring efficient scrapyard operations and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment. The Metal Picker will be responsible for transporting, sorting, and handling scrap metal materials across the yard, feeding conveyors and processing equipment, as well as performing additional duties to support machine and production operations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Handling, moving, and disposing of scrap and metal materials throughout the yard.

• Sorting, organizing, stacking, bundling, and stamping metal materials.

• Assisting in process and machine operations as required.

• Keeping the yard area clean, tidy, and organized.

• Performing lifting and manual labor tasks, including pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs.

• Greasing and cleaning equipment, assisting maintenance with production equipment upkeep.

• Wearing proper PPE gear at all times (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots).

• Following all Standard Operating Procedures and safety guidelines.

• Performing other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements:

• Completion of High School Diploma or GED.

• Reliable transportation to and from work (not accessible via city transit).

• No prior experience required, though manufacturing, scrapyard, or production background is considered an asset.

• Ability to handle physical demands including walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, and heavy lifting.

• Comfortable working in variable weather conditions (hot summers, cold winters) and in environments with dust, odors, fumes, and noise.

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including radio communication.

• Safety-conscious with strong attention to detail, work ethic, and time management skills.
