Description:
As Managing Editor for Newfoundland & Labrador English Services, you will lead and inspire CBC’s editorial teams across the province, including stations in St. John’s, Gander, Corner Brook, and Happy Valley-Goose Bay. You will play a strategic role in CBC’s transformation to be more digital, local, and ambitious, guiding journalists to grow new audiences while maintaining high journalistic standards.
Your responsibilities include:
Providing daily editorial leadership for all programs and projects
Ensuring CBC’s journalistic standards of fairness, accuracy, balance, and thoughtfulness
Developing and executing strategies to strengthen local journalism and deepen community ties
Creating an inclusive and positive work culture by coaching and mentoring staff
Building connections with colleagues nationally and across French Services in Atlantic Canada
Networking with community leaders and groups
Managing complaints to the CBC Ombudsman
Collaborating with finance and legal teams on budgeting and compliance
Hiring and supporting journalism staff training
The ideal candidate will have:
Exceptional critical thinking and strategic leadership skills
Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Deep understanding of Newfoundland & Labrador communities and journalism needs
Proven change management and problem-solving skills
Experience with multiple storytelling formats (breaking news, enterprise journalism, audio, video, digital)
A commitment to public interest journalism and public broadcasting
Additional assets include:
Ability to communicate in French and/or an Indigenous language
