As a Lactation Consultant, you will play a vital role within the inter-professional healthcare team, providing expert lactation services and nursing care to patients in the postpartum program. You will adhere to the nursing practice expectations of the College of Nurses of Ontario, comply with the legislative framework of the Regulated Health Professions Act, and uphold Osler’s values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation, and Collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver patient-centered lactation consulting and nursing services within the Women’s and Children’s program.

  • Provide specialized education, guidance, and hands-on support to postpartum mothers and families to ensure successful breastfeeding experiences.

  • Conduct newborn assessments, identifying and addressing abnormal conditions where necessary.

  • Participate in the creation and delivery of patient and family education materials, fostering awareness and confidence in maternal and child health.

  • Offer consultative leadership and collaborate closely with inter-professional healthcare teams to develop effective strategies for patient care.

  • Ensure all practices comply with health and safety standards, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to continuous quality improvement in patient care practices.

Qualifications:

  • Current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

  • Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) designation required.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in maternal child nursing, with 3–5 years of experience as a Lactation Consultant strongly preferred.

  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificate required.

  • BCLS certification mandatory.

  • Competence in newborn assessment and recognition of abnormal newborn conditions.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Proven ability to teach, mentor, and engage in patient and family health education.

  • Demonstrated leadership, facilitation, and collaborative teamwork abilities.

  • Strong organizational and critical-thinking skills with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

  • Knowledge of patient and family-centered care practices.

  • Familiarity with healthcare information systems and technologies.

  • Willingness and ability to travel and work across all Osler sites.

Additional Information:

  • Work Schedule: Part-time, currently day shifts of 8 hours, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to operational changes).

  • Compensation: Competitive hourly salary between $44.13 and $56.46, aligned with experience.
