Description:
The Salvation Army in Canada is seeking a Janitor to join its Winnipeg Centre of Hope facility. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for staff, residents, and visitors. The Janitor plays a vital part in supporting the mission and values of The Salvation Army by maintaining both the interior and exterior of the property with professionalism and care.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting washrooms and common areas
Collect and dispose of garbage, recycling, and waste materials appropriately
Restock washroom supplies and maintain inventory of cleaning products
Conduct seasonal maintenance tasks such as mowing lawns, pruning shrubs, raking leaves, and shoveling snow/ice to keep sidewalks and entrances safe
Clean windows, carpets, and walls as needed, including floor stripping/waxing and shampooing carpets
Ensure building security by checking doors and windows and reporting safety or repair issues
Support facility upkeep by moving or arranging furniture and equipment as required
Demonstrate proper cleaning methods to new staff when necessary
Working Conditions:
Physical tasks requiring lifting, bending, twisting, and handling cleaning machinery
Exposure to garbage, odours, and hazardous chemicals
Outdoor duties in varying weather conditions
Occasional interaction with difficult individuals or exposure to challenging situations
Potential exposure to infectious diseases, human waste, and sharp objects
Risks of slips, falls, or repetitive strain injuries
Precautionary Measures:
Strict adherence to universal health and safety precautions
Use of protective equipment including gloves, goggles, masks, steel-toe boots, and access to eye wash stations
Vaccination for Hepatitis recommended
Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check
