It Technical Business Analyst

S M Software Solutions Inc. is seeking an Intermediate IT Technical Business Analyst to support a regulatory modernization initiative for the Government of Alberta's Energy Optimization Project. This full-time, remote contract opportunity spans from July 3, 2025, to March 31, 2026, with a potential 12-month extension.

The selected candidate will be instrumental in aligning business applications with upcoming legislative changes under the Mines and Minerals Act. This role demands a candidate experienced in gathering, documenting, and managing business and technical requirements, with the ability to work across stakeholder groups including government ministries, vendors, and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct interviews, workshops, and analysis to elicit business, functional, and technical requirements.

• Serve as a liaison between cross-functional teams: vendors, client ministries, and internal technical/business groups.

• Prepare detailed and structured documentation including BRDs, functional specs, use cases, and user stories.

• Facilitate and support various testing phases such as UAT, system, and regression testing; manage defect tracking and resolution.

• Identify, analyze, and plan for potential risks; develop effective mitigation strategies.

• Use ITSM tools like ServiceNow for managing change, incident, and problem workflows.

• Ensure timely communication and documentation across all project phases.

• Regularly deliver project status reports outlining deliverables, issues, risks, and timelines.

• Escalate unresolved issues and provide solution options with recommendations.

• Manage project documents including requirement specs, design documents, schedules, and project plans.

• Carry out additional duties assigned by the Project Manager aligned with a Business Analyst or Lead Technical Analyst capacity.

• Daily Hours: 7.25 hours/day

• Work Model: 100% Remote (Occasional on-site presence in Edmonton may be required on notice; travel not reimbursed)
