General Accountant

Description:

Munich Re, a leading global reinsurance company, is seeking a General Accountant for a 12-month contract in their Toronto office. This role is ideal for individuals with strong analytical abilities, a keen eye for accuracy, and a desire to work in a collaborative, hybrid work environment. The successful candidate will handle the general accounting responsibilities for assigned Munich Re Canada entities, including accounts payable, expense allocation processes, financial controls, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage month, quarter, and year-end closing processes ensuring accuracy in P&L and balance sheet accounts.

• Execute quarterly expense allocation cycles and maintain accurate functional area processes.

• Produce internal management information and maintain Power BI dashboards.

• Prepare intercompany billing, reconcile intercompany balances, and manage fixed asset schedules including depreciation.

• Coordinate accruals reporting and collaborate with cost centre managers.

• Support the creation and maintenance of the annual expense plan and contribute to cost driver analysis.

• Assist in audits, core system enhancements, and implement internal control procedures to improve efficiency.

• Provide training and guidance to junior team members as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• University or college degree with specialization in accounting.

• 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience.

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of Power BI preferred.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to manage multiple deadlines.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across all organizational levels.

• Knowledge of complex cost centre structures and allocations is an asset.
