Description:
EDGE, a leader in uncrewed aircraft systems, ISR technologies, and power solutions, is seeking a FPV Drone Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of next-generation FPV drone technologies. The position is offered in partnership with Work in Ottawa, an initiative by Invest Ottawa to connect top tech talent with Ottawa-based technology companies.
As an FPV Drone Systems Engineer, you will have full engineering ownership across software, mechanical, electrical, and communications systems, contributing to cutting-edge FPV platforms and their integration with the VXE-30 system. This is a dynamic opportunity to work on high-performance UAS systems within a collaborative and innovation-focused environment.
Lead design and end-to-end development of FPV drone systems and relay payloads for the VXE-30 platform.
Configure and optimize flight control software (Betaflight, iNav, ArduPilot).
Integrate hardware components such as composite frames, motors, ESCs, and EMI shielding.
Perform soldering, wiring, and diagnostics using oscilloscopes and other tools.
Develop and implement communication and networking systems for real-time FPV control and video transmission.
Build, test, and fly FPV drones to ensure mission readiness and performance.
Document system designs, configurations, and test procedures for production and deployment.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system-level integration.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians in best practices and design principles.
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in FPV drone design and integration.
Proven expertise in flight control configuration and tuning.
Strong mechanical engineering skills (e.g., frames, ESCs, motors, boards).
Solid background in electrical engineering including soldering and diagnostics.
Knowledge of communication systems and video/control link integration.
Familiarity with composite materials used in FPV systems.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems) or equivalent FPV experience.
Transport Canada Drone Pilot Certificate – Basic (required); Advanced (preferred).
Must be able to obtain and maintain Top-Secret Clearance.
Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and collaboration skills.
