Finance Director

Description:

Our client, a growing key player in the hydropower sector, is seeking a Finance Director - Controller to join their team. This individual will serve as a strategic partner and management committee member, responsible for overseeing the company’s financial systems, banking relations, investments, insurance, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Systems & Analysis (60%):

  • Oversee consolidated financial data and reporting.

  • Coordinate audits and ensure compliance with IFRS.

  • Manage cash flow, budget, credit, and internal controls.

  • Guide financial planning and investment activities.

  • Provide decision support and financial forecasts.

  • Supervise payroll, tax filings, and financial reporting.

  • Evaluate and improve accounting practices.

  • Maintain relationships with financial institutions.

  • Ensure compliance with tax and legal regulations.

  • Contribute to project risk mitigation.

• Investment & Financing (20%):

  • Forecast project cash needs.

  • Negotiate and manage credit lines and bonding.

  • Ensure liquidity and continuity.

• Corporate Strategy (20%):

  • Support the Executive Director in strategic planning.

  • Provide financial analysis and challenge assumptions.

Qualifications:

• CPA designation (preferred) + Bachelor's in Accounting.

• 10+ years of accounting experience, including 5+ years as a Controller.

• Knowledge of IFRS; experience in construction or the hydro sector is an asset.

• Bilingual (French/English) and proficiency in MS Office.

Working Conditions:

• Hybrid role with 2-3 days per week in the office.

• Willingness to relocate to Greater Montreal or south of Montreal if outside the province.

• Eligible to work in Canada without restrictions.

• Occasional travel within and outside the province of Quebec.
