Field Technical Analyst
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled technologist to maintain, support, and upgrade Tolling, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and network communications infrastructure. This role supports roadside, warehouse and laboratory operations, ensuring systems remain reliable, secure, and best‑in‑class.
You will work with advanced technologies including RF, vision and laser systems, CCTV, DMS, radar, fiber optic networks, and electrical power systems. Duties include preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, system upgrades, and first‑line response to critical events impacting tolling operations and revenue.
Work is performed outdoors on the roadside, as well in the tolling warehouse and laboratory environment involving diagnostics, calibration, repair, and configuration of electronic and network equipment. This is a 12-hour shift position with rotating nights and days.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on Tolling, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), network communications, fiber‑optic networks, and electrical power systems to ensure continuous, reliable operation of roadside infrastructure
- Safely operate specialized vehicles and equipment, including bucket trucks, boom trucks, snowplows, and support vehicles, to access and service roadside tolling assets
- Carry out working at heights and over live traffic in strict accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Following approved traffic control plans and coordinating with internal teams, contractors, and external agencies as required
- Support warehouse and laboratory operations, including diagnostics, calibration, repair, configuration, and testing of electronic, network, and roadside equipment prior to deployment or return to service
- Maintain accurate documentation and records, including shift logs, maintenance reports, incident reports, asset tracking, and updates to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Adhere to and promote health and safety standards, including use of PPE, completion of safety inspections, participation in safety meetings, and compliance with working‑at‑heights and roadside safety requirements
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, technology upgrades, and system modernization efforts to support evolving tolling and ITS technologies
- Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis on electronic, electrical, network, RF, vision, and laser‑based systems, taking proactive action to prevent system degradation or failure
- Install, configure, commission, and upgrade roadside and back‑office equipment, including electronic devices, network hardware, cabinets, power distribution components, UPS systems, and mobile or fixed generators
- Perform fiber‑optic diagnostics and repair using OTDR equipment, as well as cable splicing, termination, testing, and documentation
- Perform structured cabling installation, repair and troubleshooting for communications and power systems
- Monitor system performance using real‑time operational and diagnostic tools; respond to alarms, incidents, and service disruptions, including first line response to critical events that may impact toll revenue
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Electronics/Electrical engineering or equivalent
- 2 years’ experience in maintenance, field operations or technology-based environment
- Experience with fiber optic systems, including basic diagnostics, testing, inspection and repair
- Practical knowledge of electronic, electrical and networking systems
- Willingness to work rotating day/night shifts and outdoors year round
- Valid driver’s license (Full G or DZ preferred)
- Self-motivated team player
- Solid hardware knowledge with PCs, mobile computing and peripherals
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work with all manner of hand tools, screwdrivers, wire strippers, socket wrenches, torque wrenches
- Able to work with minimal supervision on simple to moderately complex tasks
- Able to work with multidisciplinary teams in a positive and productive manner
- Ability to effectively deal with high priority unscheduled tasks and problems
