Community Support Worker

Description:

Horn Youth Services Foundation (KULAN), a charitable organization devoted to empowering East African and Black communities in Edmonton, is seeking a Part-Time Community Support Worker. This role plays a vital part in enhancing community well-being through direct support, advocacy, and coordination of impactful community initiatives. The successful candidate will support KULAN’s engagement in the Building Safer Communities project, working collaboratively with organizations like FOCAS and Sinkunia.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide personalized support and advocacy services to newcomers, youth, and families.

• Coordinate KULAN’s contribution to the Building Safer Communities project, ensuring effective collaboration with community partners.

• Facilitate access to essential resources such as housing, employment, and education for clients.

• Maintain comprehensive and confidential records of client interactions and program results.

• Assist in the creation and delivery of culturally responsive programming aligned with community needs.

Required Qualifications:

• Degree or relevant background in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with newcomers and diverse communities.

• Fluency in both English and Somali (spoken and written) is essential.

• In-depth understanding of settlement challenges, social systems, and support services.

• Proven ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.

• Independent, self-motivated, and a strong team collaborator.

• A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are considered assets.

• Experience in writing reports and contributing to grant applications.

• Well-developed interpersonal and conflict-resolution abilities.
