Chaplain

Description:

The Salvation Army in Canada is seeking a Chaplain to provide spiritual outreach and care for clients and staff at the Kingston Harbour Light program. Reporting to the Director of Chaplaincy and collaborating with the Program Coordinator, the Chaplain will deliver pastoral care, conduct devotional services, spiritual assessments, hospital visits, and support program activities. The role also involves organizing ceremonies, participating in team meetings, maintaining accurate case notes, and making referrals to churches and faith communities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide pastoral, moral, and spiritual support to clients and staff

• Plan, schedule, and conduct weekly devotional and chapel services, Bible studies

• Conduct spiritual assessments for clients in the Residential Treatment program

• Perform hospital visits as requested

• Source and distribute Christian and other religious literature

• Arrange ceremonies, observances, and funerals with management approval

• Support special program activities (e.g., Christmas, Easter)

• Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and committees

• Maintain accurate case notes and submit monthly statistics

• Represent the organization professionally and uphold Christian standards of conduct

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary education in Pastoral Counseling, Religious Education, or Biblical and Theological Studies

• Graduate of Salvation Army College for Officer Training or equivalent Ordination preferred; recognized chaplaincy or spiritual care education background

• Multifaith and cultural competencies

• Languages other than English are an asset

• Certification in First Aid/CPR; Crisis Intervention

• Knowledge of community resources and services

• Good interpersonal skills; fluent in written and spoken English

• Ability to work with homeless or marginalized populations impacted by trauma, mental health, or substance use

Additional Requirements:

• Approved Protected B status

• Participate annually in Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety E-Training
