Daily Bread Food Bank is seeking passionate and purpose-driven individuals to serve on its Board of Directors. This is a unique opportunity to help guide one of Toronto’s most impactful organizations in its mission to eliminate food insecurity and advocate for systemic change to end poverty.

The Board plays a critical governance role by setting strategic direction, overseeing CEO performance, ensuring strong fiduciary management, and enhancing Daily Bread’s public profile. Directors are also expected to serve on committees, contribute personally in a way that is financially feasible to them, and actively participate in board and public activities.

Responsibilities include:

• Defining and upholding the mission and values of Daily Bread

• Participating in strategic planning and monitoring implementation

• Overseeing risk mitigation and financial strategies

• Enhancing organizational reputation and partnerships

• Engaging in personal advocacy and ambassadorial activities

• Participating in regular board meetings and annual retreats

• Serving on at least one committee and contributing to organizational fundraising and visibility

Qualifications:

• A strong belief in Daily Bread’s mission to end hunger and poverty

• Lived or living experience with poverty and food insecurity is highly appreciated

• Familiarity or involvement with Daily Bread’s member agencies is encouraged

• Skills in any of the following areas are assets:

  • Advocacy, public policy, or government relations

  • Non-profit governance and previous board experience

Time Commitment:

• 8 board meetings per year, typically on Wednesday evenings (6:30–8:30 pm)

• Attendance at one in-person annual retreat (April)

• Participation in at least one board committee (approx. 8 meetings annually)

• Term: 2 years, renewable up to four times

• Optional attendance at public, donor, and volunteer events is welcomed
