Description:
The Animal Care Worker supports laboratory research at the McGill University Health Centre Research Institute (IR-CUSM), a world-renowned biomedical research center. Reporting to the Manager of the Animal Resources Division, the incumbent performs technical, administrative, and animal care tasks across IR-CUSM sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform husbandry and routine care of laboratory animals
Record health and usage data and provide reports
Clean, wash, disinfect, and prepare animal cages
Receive, store, and transport animal food and supplies
Maintain inventory of materials and equipment
Distribute clean linens and uniforms
Operate and monitor equipment, tools, and instruments
Collaborate with researchers and research staff
Qualifications & Skills:
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Adaptability to work at multiple IR-CUSM sites
Ability to multitask and manage time-sensitive priorities with minimal supervision
Bilingual in French and English (spoken and written)
Previous experience working with animals is an asset
Additional Information:
Part-time, on-call schedule; hours vary according to need
Initial training requires minimum 2 consecutive weeks availability (Monday to Friday, 35 hours/week)
Work may include weekends, holidays, and vacation coverage; shifts start at 7:00 AM
Not a hospital position
