Animal Care Worker

 

Description:

The Animal Care Worker supports laboratory research at the McGill University Health Centre Research Institute (IR-CUSM), a world-renowned biomedical research center. Reporting to the Manager of the Animal Resources Division, the incumbent performs technical, administrative, and animal care tasks across IR-CUSM sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform husbandry and routine care of laboratory animals

  • Record health and usage data and provide reports

  • Clean, wash, disinfect, and prepare animal cages

  • Receive, store, and transport animal food and supplies

  • Maintain inventory of materials and equipment

  • Distribute clean linens and uniforms

  • Operate and monitor equipment, tools, and instruments

  • Collaborate with researchers and research staff

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Adaptability to work at multiple IR-CUSM sites

  • Ability to multitask and manage time-sensitive priorities with minimal supervision

  • Bilingual in French and English (spoken and written)

  • Previous experience working with animals is an asset

Additional Information:

  • Part-time, on-call schedule; hours vary according to need

  • Initial training requires minimum 2 consecutive weeks availability (Monday to Friday, 35 hours/week)

  • Work may include weekends, holidays, and vacation coverage; shifts start at 7:00 AM

  • Not a hospital position
