Animal Care Technician

Description:

Join the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), a globally recognized biomedical and hospital research center in Montreal affiliated with McGill University Faculty of Medicine. As an Animal Care Technician within the Animal Resources Division, you will perform essential animal care, technical procedures, and administrative duties supporting laboratory animal health and research.

Key Responsibilities:

• Observe and perform physical examinations on laboratory animals, identifying and reporting health issues to the Veterinarian and research staff.

• Administer treatments and conduct diagnostic tests as prescribed by the Veterinarian.

• Prepare equipment and supplies for surgical procedures; provide surgical pre- and post-operative care.

• Conduct routine and specialized animal care techniques, and assist with husbandry and maintenance.

• Provide training and orientation to Principal Investigators (PIs) and research staff regarding animal care and protocols.

• Maintain inventory of materials, medications, and equipment, operating necessary tools and instruments.

• Perform administrative tasks including data entry, coordinating meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Diploma of Collegial Studies (D.E.C.) specializing in Animal Health Technology (Program 145.A0) from a recognized institution.

• Experience with large research animal models is an asset.

• CALAS-AALAS certification or equivalent is a plus.

• Strong adaptability, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks independently.

• Computer proficiency in Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet applications.

• Bilingual proficiency in French and English (spoken and written).

Work Conditions:

• Temporary, part-time on-call position with variable hours depending on division needs.

• Shifts starting at 8 a.m., including weekends, holidays, and vacation replacements.
