Description:

The Correction Enterprise Supervisor II (CES II) plays a vital leadership role within the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, contributing to the management of agricultural operations and the rehabilitation of offenders through hands-on vocational training. This position supports the management of row crop, vegetable, hay, and poultry operations while ensuring production efficiency, safety compliance, and offender skill development.

Primarily focused on poultry production, this role also includes assisting with crop production and maintaining operational equipment, tools, and facilities. The CES II ensures that agricultural activities are executed efficiently and in compliance with all relevant standards, policies, and environmental regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Agricultural Management:
    Assist farm management in overseeing poultry, row crop, vegetable, and hay operations across various state facilities.

  • Poultry Operations:
    Manage the daily operation of poultry production, including raising pullets, maintaining egg production levels, and recording wastewater irrigation data.

  • Maintenance & Inventory:
    Maintain and repair farm equipment, tools, and machinery while ensuring proper inventory control for the poultry operation.

  • Training & Supervision:
    Train offenders and staff in agricultural techniques, safety procedures, and equipment usage to promote vocational rehabilitation and skill development.

  • Crop Production Assistance:
    Support row crop and vegetable production activities as needed, including planting, harvesting, pest control, and disease management.

  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Ensure adherence to NCDAC policies, environmental standards, and agricultural safety regulations.

  • Weekend Availability:
    Occasionally perform weekend work to maintain continuous operations.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education:
    High school diploma or GED required.

  • Experience:
    Minimum of 2 years in agriculture, farm management, or a related service field.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in poultry, row crop, and vegetable production.

    • Ability to identify and control agricultural pests and diseases.

    • Familiarity with pesticide and wastewater management systems.

  • Licenses and Certifications:

    • Valid driver’s license.

    • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

    • Must obtain a NC Public Operator License in Agricultural Pest/Plant within 6 months of hire.

    • Maintain a Class C license, pesticide license, and wastewater license.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Must be at least 20 years old and a U.S. citizen.

    • Must pass psychological testing, physical examination, and drug screening.

    • Must successfully complete 6 weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) during the second month of employment.


Preferred Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with poultry layer management, pullet rearing, and crop irrigation systems.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

  • Ability to manage offenders in a structured agricultural training environment.

  • Working knowledge of farm machinery and safety compliance.

  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills.
