Actuarial Program

Description:

Manulife’s Actuarial Co-op Program is designed to provide students with a structured and supportive launchpad for a successful actuarial career. Co-op students will gain exposure to a variety of actuarial disciplines including pricing, valuation, modeling, risk management, asset liability management, and experience analytics. The program offers opportunities to develop both technical and business skills while collaborating with experienced actuaries and professionals.

Participants will benefit from mentorship, professional networking, engagement in company events, and competitive compensation, including exam study support. Co-op students will also gain early access to Manulife’s premier early talent program, Graduate Recruitment Opportunities (GRO), tailored to graduating students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work alongside actuarial professionals, gaining insights into industry standards and practices.

• Build a professional network within one of North America’s largest actuarial employers.

• Attend presentations from guest speakers on topics such as AXIS modelling, actuarial functions, and exam study tips.

• Develop technical and soft skills through hands-on participation and presentations.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Working towards a University degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, or a related discipline.

• Relevant actuarial experience and commitment to obtaining FSA/FCIA designations (e.g., passing at least one SOA exam) are assets.

• Working knowledge of Excel is required; experience with AXIS or other actuarial software is an asset.

• Excellent communication skills to present issues, options, and recommendations to both actuarial and non-actuarial audiences.

• Solution-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Self-starter, team player, and proactive with strong work ethic.

• Demonstrated leadership in prior roles or extracurricular activities.
