Youth Public Speaking Mentor Volunteer

Description:

Volunteer Success, in collaboration with U+ Toastmasters’ Youth Volunteer Connects Program (funded by Canada Service Corps), is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join as Youth Public Speaking Mentor Volunteers. This initiative empowers youth aged 8–18 to build strong communication, leadership, and confidence skills through structured public speaking and mentorship opportunities.

As a mentor, you will play a vital role in helping young people gain the confidence to express themselves, develop their leadership abilities, and grow into effective communicators. This is a meaningful volunteer experience where you will support the next generation of leaders while also enhancing your own public speaking, coaching, and mentoring skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Encourage and support youth as they deliver both prepared and impromptu speeches.

  • Provide constructive, positive feedback to help participants refine their speaking and presentation skills.

  • Guide students in understanding and performing different meeting roles.

  • Help foster an inclusive, respectful, and encouraging club environment.

  • Attend and actively participate in weekly or biweekly club meetings (either online or in person).

What You’ll Gain:

  • Hands-on experience mentoring youth in a structured, leadership-oriented environment.

  • Opportunities to improve your own communication, coaching, and facilitation skills.

  • The chance to make a direct, positive impact on a young person’s confidence and personal growth.

  • Experience working with a collaborative, youth-centered, and mission-driven team.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Volunteers aged 12–30 who are dependable, enthusiastic, and willing to learn.

  • Individuals with a genuine interest in volunteering and supporting youth development.

  • Commitment to completing basic training and attending club meetings.

  • Fluent in English (other languages are considered an asset).

  • Volunteers 18 and over must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Bonus Skills (not required):

  • Prior leadership or mentorship experience from school, work, clubs, or volunteering.

  • Strong proficiency in a second language.

Additional Information:

  • Minimum Age: 12 years old (Vulnerable Sector Check required for volunteers 18+).

  • Commitment: Flexible schedule with ongoing opportunities.

  • Location: U+ Toastmasters, 203-1595 16th Avenue, Richmond Hill, ON L4B 3N9.

  • Volunteer Type: Individual or Group (including High School 40-Hour Program).

  • Languages: English (multilingual ability is an asset).
