Description:
Sunrise Engineering and Manufacturing Inc. (SEM), located in Delta BC., is looking for an journeyman welder with experience in welding stainless and other alloys material. This a full-time union position with benefits. SEM specializes in repairing of Pulp Mill Equipment and providing manufacturing services to other industries (www.sunrise-em.com).
Skills and Requirement
- Able to follow instructions and safety rules
- Able to read and interpret instructions, sketches, diagrams, drawings
- Knowledgeable in operating variety of welding equipment and welding procedures
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, grinders, etc.)
- Good hand/eye coordination and able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Knowledgeable in using measuring instruments, i.e., calibers, tape measures, and squares to ensure meeting drawing specifications (including recording of measurements and finish specifications)
- Able operate overhead cranes, and forklifts
- Completion of a Red Seal apprenticeship program, such as pipefitting, welding, or heavy equipment repair
- Completion of secondary school
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform all operations in safe manner, and follow all safety rules and regulations
- Review drawings, and follow instructions to fabricate/weld parts to specifications
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or methods based on requirements
- Select appropriate and effective tools to complete jobs in a timely manner
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Operate angle grinders to clean and prepare the parts that are to be welded together
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure for checking welding quality
- Monitor welding progress to ensure consistency with specifications
- Measure and record final welded dimensions and specifications of equipment
- Operate overhead cranes and forklift to assist work requirement
