Job Description:

SLR Consulting is seeking a Water Quality Modeller to join its growing Integrated Mine Water Management team. This role focuses on developing Goldsim®-based surface water quality models, analyzing water chemistry data, and generating geochemical source terms for use in predictive modeling and environmental assessments.

The successful candidate will support mine water management, permitting, and environmental management projects across Canada and internationally. The position offers a hybrid or primarily remote work arrangement, with flexibility based on the candidate’s location and project requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply Goldsim®, PHREEQC, or spreadsheet-based water quality models.

  • Collaborate with geochemists, hydrologists, and groundwater modellers to integrate modeling efforts.

  • Create and manage large water quality and chemistry databases.

  • Develop geochemical source terms for modeling input parameters.

  • Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing modeling methodologies, assumptions, and outcomes.

  • Contribute to engineering design, permitting, operational optimization, and site reclamation through modeling insights.

  • Support or lead multiple projects while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget.

  • Develop and implement water quality monitoring programs and QA/QC procedures.

  • Communicate modeling results to clients, regulators, and project teams effectively.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in water quality or geochemical modeling, preferably in the mining sector.

  • Advanced proficiency with Goldsim® software (required).

  • Experience with PHREEQC or similar modeling tools an asset.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Geochemistry, Engineering, Biology, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).

  • Professional designation or eligibility for registration (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo., etc.).

  • Working knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial (especially BC, Ontario, Yukon, NWT) environmental regulations and permitting processes.

  • Strong ability to write clear technical reports and communicate with regulatory agencies, clients, and Indigenous communities.

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for short-term site work.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
