Description:
Family & Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County (FCSGW) is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to serve as Mentors or Youth Mentors. This volunteer role provides one-on-one support and guidance to children aged 5–12 or youth aged 13–18+. Through regular visits and activities, mentors play a pivotal role in supporting the social development, personal growth, and community connection of children and youth while also offering respite for parents.
Volunteers in this program will become positive role models and trusted companions, helping children and youth access opportunities they might not otherwise have. This is a meaningful chance to directly impact lives, support families, and contribute to stronger communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide consistent, one-on-one mentorship through weekly visits (up to 3 hours per week).
Support children and youth with personal development and social skills.
Offer encouragement, advocacy, and a listening ear in a safe and respectful manner.
Act as a positive, reliable, and empathetic role model.
Introduce children and youth to community connections and fun activities.
Assist with life skills development (e.g., schoolwork, budgeting, cooking, shopping) when appropriate.
Submit monthly logs and expenses.
Maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.
Attend orientation and required training sessions.
Commitment:
Minimum of 8 months.
Once a week, up to 3 hours per week (days and times flexible).
Application process may take 6–8 weeks.
Pre-service training sessions offered 3 times per year (January, May, September).
