Role Overview:
The Virtual Mental Health Nurse for FNvSUPS provides culturally safe, trauma-informed mental health nursing services through a virtual care model, working closely with psychiatrists and a multi-disciplinary team. The role supports Indigenous people and families in BC with access to mental health and substance use care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver client-centered, culturally safe, trauma-informed virtual mental health nursing services across all life stages.

• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary virtual team environment.

• Contribute to a racism-free, culturally safe environment for clients, families, and staff.

• Apply holistic Indigenous and Western approaches to care.

Education and Certification:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized university.

• Current practicing registration as RN or RPN with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong knowledge of cultural safety, humility, trauma-informed care.

• Understanding of First Nations cultural principles and protocols.

• Knowledge of concurrent disorders, intergenerational trauma impacts on addiction.

• Awareness of intersectionality, power, privilege and their effects on practice.

• Competence in group dynamics, individual counseling, and family therapy.

Additional Info:

• May have experience as Telehealth Nurse, Mental Health/Substance Use Nurse Educator, Crisis Intervention Nurse.
