Description:
Wawanesa Insurance, a leading Canadian mutual insurer with more than $3.5 billion in annual revenue, $10 billion in assets, and over 1.7 million members across the country, is seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President, Business Development – West. This role is based in Winnipeg and requires a balance of onsite leadership and external engagement to drive sustainable revenue growth and strengthen broker distribution partnerships across the western region of Canada.
The VP will provide strategic leadership to expand Wawanesa’s P&C Operations, overseeing growth initiatives, sales programs, and market development strategies. This position plays a pivotal role in building and maintaining broker relationships, expanding distribution opportunities, and positioning Wawanesa as a trusted and competitive partner in the insurance marketplace.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and deliver new business growth targets aligned with corporate and line-of-business objectives.
Establish and manage broker production targets while creating actionable growth strategies for individual brokerage partners.
Build and strengthen national and regional broker relationships, ensuring long-term partnerships.
Prospect for new distribution channels and cultivate opportunities to enhance market presence.
Assess broker partnerships against strategic goals, identifying risks and opportunities.
Develop effective sales strategies to maximize upsell, cross-sell, and portfolio opportunities.
Represent Wawanesa at major industry events, broker conventions, and advisory councils.
Provide inspirational leadership and coaching to the business development team, fostering a culture of high performance and accountability.
Maintain deep market knowledge and competitive intelligence to inform decision-making.
Act as an escalation point between brokers and Wawanesa’s Executive Leadership to resolve issues and strengthen collaboration.
Qualifications:
15+ years of insurance or relevant business development experience.
Proven success in driving top-line revenue growth.
Strong relationship-building skills with C-suite leaders and industry stakeholders.
Undergraduate degree and/or FCIP designation.
Demonstrated leadership ability with credibility and influence.
Skilled in planning, goal setting, results measurement, and strategic execution.
Excellent presentation and facilitation abilities.
Strong executive communication skills with a confident presence.
Ability and willingness to travel as required.
Compensation & Benefits:
Base salary: 220000 – 270000 CAD/year (18333 – 22500 CAD/month).
