Description:

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), recognized as one of BC’s Top Employers, is inviting applications for the role of VFX Lab Instructor within the Faculty of Arts. This position plays a critical role in enhancing student learning through practical, lab-based instruction and collaborative support in KPU's dynamic Entertainment Arts programs.

As a VFX Lab Instructor, you will report to the Divisional Business Manager and collaborate closely with faculty, department chairs, and other lab instructors. You will be instrumental in guiding students through the lab component of their coursework, providing instruction on equipment usage, offering technical mentorship, and facilitating hands-on practice. You will also support the development of course materials, assist in maintaining lab functionality, and introduce new equipment and methodologies aligned with industry standards.

The role emphasizes teamwork, innovation, and independence. You will be expected to work effectively both independently and collaboratively while upholding KPU's commitment to student engagement and applied learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide students through lab activities in coordination with course instructors

  • Instruct students on proper lab procedures and equipment usage

  • Conduct research and introduce new tools, technologies, and processes to the lab

  • Collaborate with instructors and student mentors to ensure lab sessions align with learning objectives

  • Maintain equipment and support lab organization

  • Assist with student assessments related to lab performance

  • Participate in continuous improvement of instructional methods and materials

Qualifications:

  • A completed 2-year diploma in Entertainment Arts (within the past five years)

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

  • Ability to take initiative and exercise critical judgment

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies

  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks, prioritize deadlines, and provide student support

  • Ability to facilitate learning in a supportive and inclusive manner

  • Proven skills in teamwork and collaboration across multiple stakeholders

Work Schedule and Terms:

  • Temporary part-time employment

  • Hours: Between 5.5 to 16.5 hours/week; days of work can include Monday to Saturday between 9:00am to 10:00pm, based on course scheduling and candidate availability

  • Travel: Occasional inter-campus travel required
