Description:

The Salvation Army in Canada, a renowned faith-based non-profit organization committed to serving vulnerable communities for over 130 years, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Unit Manager for its Edmonton Centre of Hope facility. This critical role will provide strategic leadership and management across nursing administration, interdisciplinary coordination, resource management, and care service operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care.

As a key member of the leadership team, the Unit Manager will report directly to the Director of Care and will manage approximately 80 direct reports including Health Care Aides, Licensed Practical Nurses, Shift Lead LPNs, and Office Clerk. The role entails fostering a collaborative and professional working environment while maintaining high standards in care delivery, scheduling, performance appraisals, staff development, and compliance with regulatory frameworks and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee infection control, safety protocols, and medication administration procedures

  • Monitor and develop nursing team through mentoring, education, and leadership

  • Lead regular nursing and interdisciplinary case management meetings

  • Coordinate performance management, hiring, training, and disciplinary actions in consultation with HR and Director of Care

  • Serve as liaison with Alberta Health Services (AHS), physicians, pharmacies, and residents’ families

  • Maintain effective budget management, scheduling compliance, and workplace wellness

  • Manage incidents, reports, audits, and statistics within organizational timelines

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related healthcare field (equivalent education and experience may be considered)

  • Current Basic Life Support Certification

  • Criminal Police Investigation Check with Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training

  • Deep understanding of supportive living standards and experience with senior care

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and conflict resolution skills

  • Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite

Working Conditions:

  • On-call rotation required

  • Must work across all shifts and engage directly with residents and interdisciplinary teams

  • Exposure to challenging environments such as handling medical emergencies, aggressive behavior, and potentially hazardous substances
