Description:
FTQ (Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec) is seeking a Union Advisor for a permanent position, reporting to the General Secretary or their delegate. The role involves representing the organization, planning, coordinating, and leading the union life in the feminine network, as well as developing union files related to feminist actions and salary equity. The advisor will be responsible for the service of feminist actions and gender equity, supporting women's participation in decision-making processes, and ensuring the development of policies on gender equality.
Key Responsibilities:
Represent FTQ and defend its positions in various forums, organizations, and coalitions.
Strengthen and optimize FTQ’s role with external partners.
Facilitate FTQ instances and union life in the feminine network through mobilization of activists and affiliated unions, organizing events, activities, and campaigns.
Create information, promotional tools, and educational documents in various learning formats.
Follow up and develop the assigned union files.
Contribute to or coordinate critical analysis of issues concerning women’s rights, human rights, and labor market issues.
Develop a collaborative team structure to coordinate, support, or contribute to joint projects with other FTQ services or permanent committees.
Help promote better understanding of feminist issues within the labor movement and the broader community.
Write detailed documents, including memoranda, policy statements, documents for congresses or colloquiums, informational documents, action plans, and articles for internal and external publications.
Support leaders and affiliated unions in specific files and events, such as providing technical assistance, preparing notes, and writing speeches.
Ensure the implementation and development of FTQ policies on gender equality and access to equality.
Work to strengthen and expand the presence of women in decision-making and consultative structures within FTQ.
Perform any other tasks as requested by the General Secretary or their delegate.
Job Requirements:
A university degree in a human sciences discipline or equivalent experience.
Strong knowledge of feminist issues and the ability to integrate a feminist perspective into work.
Good understanding of feminist issues, access to equality, and inclusive workplace practices.
Demonstrated ability to work with other organizations, both union and non-union, in a collaborative environment.
Strong knowledge of feminist networks.
Excellent analysis, writing, and communication skills.
Proficiency with computer tools and the internet.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Experience working on the ground.
Knowledge of the Quebec labor movement and its goals for social and economic equality, with knowledge of FTQ structures being an asset.
Knowledge of ADS+ is an asset.
Compensation and Assignment:
The selected candidate will be assigned to the FTQ headquarters in Montreal.
The salary will be according to the collective agreement in effect between SEPB and FTQ.
