Description:

Canada Life, one of Canada's most respected and long-standing life insurance companies, is seeking a Bilingual (French/English) Underwriting Consultant to join its underwriting team. The successful candidate will contribute to Canada Life’s mission of delivering top-tier insurance services while maintaining a balance between customer satisfaction, risk evaluation, and regulatory compliance.

This is a permanent, full-time hybrid position. The role may be located in any of the company’s head offices: London, Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, or Regina.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive underwriting assessments for individual life insurance cases, ensuring risk classification aligns with company policies and risk profiles.

  • Review and analyze financial, medical, and personal documents to assess client eligibility and risk factors.

  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal teams and field advisors to ensure a positive customer journey and timely decisions.

  • Maintain compliance with industry regulations, internal standards, and privacy laws.

  • Provide exceptional service to advisors and partners while supporting sales with sound underwriting decisions.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development, mentoring, and continuous process improvements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven underwriting experience with strong analytical and risk-assessment capabilities.

  • Strong decision-making skills based on financial, medical, and non-medical information.

  • Minimum 5 years in the insurance underwriting field, ideally with large case exposure.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to negotiate and liaise with reinsurers.

  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to handle competing priorities effectively.

  • Proficiency in both French and English to support clients from diverse jurisdictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FALU (Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting)

  • FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute)

  • Other related certifications or designations in insurance or underwriting
