Underwriting Account Manager

Description:

As an Underwriting Account Manager in the National Accounts New Business Underwriting team, you will play a key role in driving growth in the large case market. Your responsibilities will include performing all underwriting functions related to new business quotes, collaborating with senior managers to refine quotes, and participating in marketing exercises for cases involving 1000-5000 lives. You will be part of a team that combines creativity, collaboration, and strategic thinking to develop compelling proposals that aim to win and retain clients in this dynamic market.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess risk on complex cases, analyzing the client’s fit with Canada Life by considering industry, economic outlook, financial arrangements, and historical data.

• Develop financially sound proposals, including pricing, funding arrangements, guarantees, and investment options.

• Identify creative pricing approaches and effectively present these strategies to senior management.

• Provide detailed explanations for pricing decisions and ensure clarity in the underwriting process.

• Respond to underwriting queries in Request for Proposals (RFPs) thoughtfully and professionally.

• Support the successful transition of new business clients to the renewal underwriting teams.

What You Will Bring:

• A minimum of 3 years’ underwriting experience (or equivalent).

• Post-secondary degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• In-depth knowledge of Group Benefits products, pricing, and funding arrangements.

• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to apply a structured approach to risk analysis.

• Creative problem-solving capabilities with the ability to challenge the status quo.

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information concisely.

• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

• Proven ability to build constructive relationships internally and externally.

Additional Information:

• Base salary: $52,800.00 - $97,700.00 annually (excluding other variable compensation such as bonuses or commissions).
