Numbered Gaming Co, a small and agile game studio based in Victoria, BC, is seeking a Senior 3D Artist & UI/UX Designer to join their team and help shape an exciting stylized VR title being built in Unreal Engine 5. This is a unique opportunity to contribute artistically, technically, and creatively to a high-energy VR experience where every team member has ownership and influence over the final product.

As an early team member, you'll help build game-ready assets, design immersive and intuitive VR UI, and contribute to cross-functional development that leverages the latest in creative tools, including AI-assisted pipelines. If you’re passionate about virtual worlds, stylized design, and VR development, this is a rare opportunity to build from the ground up with a team that values autonomy, experimentation, and ownership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Incorporate AI tools for concepting and procedural workflows where effective

UI/UX Design & Blueprint Implementation:

  • Design immersive VR-native interfaces (HUDs, icons, diegetic panels)

  • Build interactive widget blueprints (UMG) for hand/controller input

  • Run iterative headset testing with comfort-focused UI refinement

  • Utilize AI design assistants to prototype layout and interactions

Performance & Technical Art:

  • Use Unreal Insights for profiling and performance tuning (draw calls, overdraw)

  • Merge instanced meshes, manage LODs, optimize shaders and materials

  • Create and maintain Niagara VFX, lighting passes, and lightweight shaders

Cross-Platform VR Readiness:

  • Optimize across multiple platforms (Quest 3, PCVR) for stable 90 FPS performance

  • Balance ASTC texture compression, geometry, and visual fidelity

Pipeline & Tools:

  • Use Git-LFS or Perforce for asset versioning and large binary files

  • Maintain clean, well-documented asset structures and scripts

Optional Contributions (Nice to Have):

  • Control Rig animation

  • Photogrammetry, Houdini tools

  • Marketing key art and concept paintovers

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years professional experience with shipped games or XR projects

  • Strong portfolio showcasing stylized 3D models and intuitive UI designs

  • Fluency in Blender/Maya, Substance Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator

  • Deep hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5 (asset/material/UI setup)

  • Solid understanding of optimization techniques in VR

  • Ability to self-manage and deliver full features independently

  • Collaborative, feedback-positive attitude

  • Comfort with AI-assisted tools, with clear boundaries and creative direction

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Previously shipped a VR title (Quest, PSVR2, PCVR)

  • Niagara VFX, HLSL shader development, or Control Rig expertise

  • Experience with VR accessibility standards and anti-motion-sickness design

What the Company Offers:

  • Ownership equity or revenue-sharing for early employees

  • Flexible salary/equity package

  • Opportunity to define studio standards and creative direction

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and wellness benefits

  • Annual learning budget for courses and upskilling (including AI tools)
