Trade Finance Specialist

Description:

BNP Paribas, a leading international banking institution and one of Montreal’s Top Employers 2024, is seeking a Trade Finance Specialist to join their team in Montreal. This role is ideal for candidates interested in trade finance, letters of credit, guarantees, and supporting global banking operations while contributing to a sustainable and ethical banking environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review, vet, draft, and process Standby Letters of Credit (SBLC), Guarantees (including Bid/Performance Bonds and Letters of Indemnity), and Import/Export Documentary Credits and Collections.

• Collaborate with internal/external counsel and Trade Finance Advisors as required.

• Process LC issuance, advising/confirming, amendments, examination of documents, payments, SBLC auto-extend, fee/expense processing, billing of lading, unfunded risk participations, and general ledger reconciliations.

• Address and resolve routine inquiries from internal and external clients in a timely manner.

• Ensure strict compliance with internal procedures, external regulatory/legal requirements, and Trade Finance Guidelines.

• Keep management informed of potential issues affecting deadlines or operational efficiency.

• Perform ad-hoc tasks as directed by team leaders or managers.

Required Qualifications:

• Technical LC experience (0–2 years) with knowledge of UCP 600, ISP98, Uniform Commercial Code Article 5, and URDG 758.

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Commerce.

• English proficiency required; Spanish is a plus.

• Working knowledge of AML and OFAC Compliance regulations.

• Familiarity with bank accounting systems is a plus.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
