The Trade Compliance Specialist (Contract) supports global trade compliance strategies, process improvements, and day-to-day import/export operations.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with global trade laws, manage product classifications, oversee trade documentation, and promote a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
Manage daily Import/Export operations to ensure compliance with international trade regulations.
Classify new products and maintain databases for HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) and ECCN (Export Control Classification Numbers).
Prepare, review, and verify commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
Conduct restricted/denied party screenings and ensure preventive controls are in place.
Support export license applications, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements.
Monitor and communicate regulatory changes to relevant departments.
Develop and maintain Trade Compliance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Conduct and support internal trade compliance audits and implement corrective actions.
Complete preferential trade agreements documentation (CUSMA, EU FTAs, CPTPP).
Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies.
Deliver employee training to promote awareness and understanding of compliance practices.
In-depth knowledge of international trade laws and customs regulations.
Experience with tariff classification (HTS, ECCN) and valuation methods.
Understanding of rules of origin, USMCA/CUSMA, and country-of-origin requirements.
Skilled in export licensing, compliance recordkeeping, and restricted party screening.
Proficiency with ERP, CARM, and CERS systems.
Strong ability to interpret and apply complex trade regulations.
Proven documentation, audit trail maintenance, and accurate reporting.
Experience developing and executing trade compliance SOPs.
Detail-oriented, organized, and adept at problem-solving.
Excellent communication and collaboration across departments.
Ability to train and influence others on compliance best practices.
Demonstrated accountability and initiative in fast-paced environments.
Culturally aware and effective in a global business context.
3+ years of trade compliance experience
Professional certifications such as:
Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
Certified Export Specialist (CES)
CITT/CTCS designation
Prior experience in manufacturing or industrial equipment sectors
Fluency in an additional language is an asset
Primarily office-based with occasional travel to logistics or production sites
