Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, repair, and replace tracks, ties, switches, and ballast.

  • Maintain various hand tools for track maintenance.

  • Remove and replace defective ties, spikes, and rail fasteners.

  • Correct track defects, including leveling, dressing, and spacing.

  • Install and repair crossings and level crossings, and assist in the replacement or repair of electrical switchgear and insulated joints.

  • Unload ballast and distribute track materials.

  • Sort used track materials for loading.

  • Ensure the railway right-of-way is free from brush, vegetation, snow, and debris.

  • Maintain a safe work environment by following CN’s safety guidelines and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Relevant work experience in similar conditions or in environments subject to strict operational and safety rules.

  • Experience operating heavy machinery and equipment.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must meet all fitness and safety evaluation requirements.

  • Ability to work autonomously, adapt to changing conditions, and manage stress effectively.

  • Strong team player with the ability to maintain positive relationships.

  • Strong attention to detail and dedication to performing work according to safety and quality standards.

Training:
Selected candidates will undergo a paid 4-week training program at CN’s Campus in Winnipeg, followed by practical training. This will help them acquire the necessary knowledge and meet regulatory and safety standards. Success in both theoretical and practical training is required to retain the Track Maintenance Worker position at CN.
