Tenure Track Faculty Member

Description:

The University of Saskatchewan invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Large Animal Internal Medicine within the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM). This faculty appointment combines clinical service, teaching, and scholarly activities in a collaborative academic and clinical setting.

The position involves providing primary care and referral services for equine and food/fiber animals in the Veterinary Medical Centre, teaching clinical and didactic courses to DVM students, supervising residents and interns, and actively contributing to research within a dynamic and well-equipped academic hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver clinical service and teaching in large animal internal medicine (50% clinical teaching/service).

• Manage and treat in-house and referred equine and livestock (e.g., cattle, small ruminants) cases.

• Participate in on-call rotation shared with two other faculty members.

• Provide didactic lectures and hands-on training to veterinary students, interns, and residents.

• Supervise graduate research and scholarly activity including mentorship of MSc and PhD candidates.

• Maintain effective, collegial collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.

• Engage in scholarly output through research publication, grants, and collaborative projects.

Qualifications Required:

• DVM (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.

• Diplomate of ACVIM (Large Animal or Equine Internal Medicine) preferred; applicants who have completed a recognized residency may be considered.

• MSc or PhD in a related field is required.

• Demonstrated teaching skills, scholarly engagement, and commitment to clinical service.

• Ability to handle diverse cases involving both equine and production animals.

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.

• Previous academic or teaching experience is a strong asset.

• Eligible to work in Canada (citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work authorization).

The WCVM hosts a state-of-the-art veterinary medical centre, fully equipped with:

• Siemens 1.5 Tesla MRI (in-house) and standing equine MRI.

• Toshiba Aquilion One 320-slice CT, Gamma camera, fluoroscopy, and digital radiography systems.

• High-speed treadmill, over-the-ground endoscope, and full AVMA/AAHA accreditation.
