Technology Architect

 

Description:

Queen’s University is seeking a Technology Architect to join its innovative Education Technology (EdTech) team. This hybrid role is integral to enhancing digital learning experiences by developing educational technologies, integrating secure systems, and advancing teaching methodologies.

As a key member of the IT Services department, you will design and implement architecture for educational applications, manage software licensing and analytics, and support the integration of Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Brightspace, Moodle, Canvas, or Blackboard. You’ll also play a pivotal role in cloud deployment, data pipeline development, API integration, and faculty training initiatives.

Ideal candidates will bring significant experience in programming, cloud computing, and data analytics, coupled with a passion for educational transformation through technology. You will also be instrumental in training instructors, evaluating learning outcomes, developing instructional content, and collaborating across university departments to ensure excellence in learning design.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and implement instructional innovations and educational technologies.

  • Consult with faculty to transition from traditional lectures to active learning models.

  • Provide training for faculty, staff, and teaching assistants on EdTech tools.

  • Design and produce interactive learning materials such as quizzes, modules, and digital content.

  • Support teaching methodologies aligned with accreditation standards.

  • Lead mapping and assessment of student engagement and learning outcomes.

  • Create and manage a repository of educational resources.

  • Lead integration of data pipelines between LMS and university data systems.

  • Assess and manage software licensing platforms and budget implications.

  • Contribute to strategic planning and ensure compliance with IT security and accessibility standards.


Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.

  • Continuous professional development or certification in emerging technologies is required.


Required Experience:

  • Over 5 years of progressive experience in educational technologies or IT architecture.

  • Experience with LMS platforms, rapid eLearning development, and large-scale educational rollouts.

  • Proficiency in API integration (REST, SOAP), database management (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle/DB2), and enterprise-level IT systems.

  • Skilled in programming languages such as Java, Python, and JavaScript.

  • Cloud platform expertise (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud).

  • Familiarity with analytics tools like Tableau and Power BI.
