Technical Support Specialist

 

Description:

Fanshawe College is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join its School of Advanced Manufacturing and Transportation Technology as a Temporary Technical Support Specialist. This role is based at 1764 Oxford Street, London, Ontario, and involves providing comprehensive technical support to staff, faculty, and students engaged in heavy-duty truck, agricultural, and diesel-related programs.

Under the supervision of the Lab Operations Manager, Faculty of Science, Trades, Technology, and Design, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and organization of laboratory facilities, tools, and instructional equipment.

The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks including the installation, cleaning, adjustment, dismantling, reconditioning, repairing, rebuilding, and testing of shop tools and machinery. They will maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, manage requisitions for academic and maintenance supplies, and develop instructional aids and materials to enhance teaching and learning experiences within the program.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily technical assistance and operational support in the School of Transportation Technology and Apprenticeship.

  • Maintain, service, and repair tools and lab equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.

  • Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.

  • Requisition academic and maintenance supplies as needed.

  • Assist faculty with technical demonstrations by developing instructional aids and preparing related class materials.

  • Support a safe, organized, and efficient learning environment for students and faculty.


Qualifications:

  • Trade Certificate of Qualification as Truck/Coach (310T) and/or Heavy Duty/Agricultural Equipment Technician (425A or equivalent, Interprovincial Seal).

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant hands-on experience in heavy-duty equipment maintenance or related technical fields.

  • AZ driver’s license is considered an asset.

  • Welding experience is preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Transcripts are not required for the interview, but will be mandatory as a condition of employment.
