Description:

William Osler Health System, a nationally recognized hospital network committed to patient safety and high-quality care, is seeking a Technical Specialist I - Diagnostic Imaging to provide expert technical support within their Diagnostic Imaging department. The Technical Specialist I will report to the Clinical Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, and work closely with the Diagnostic Imaging Modality Supervisor. This role involves applying expert knowledge to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain diagnostic imaging equipment, ensuring adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements such as the Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform medical imaging procedures with expert technical skill, following department protocols and regulatory safety principles.

  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain diagnostic imaging and ancillary equipment to ensure optimal performance.

  • Carry out quality assurance (QA) tasks, including image quality reviews and equipment calibration.

  • Provide technical guidance and training to staff within the diagnostic imaging area to maintain departmental efficiency.

  • Collaborate with modality supervisors to analyze quality assurance and repeat/reject rates, developing action plans to address concerns.

  • Monitor workflow and help ensure equitable workload distribution among staff.

  • Recommend and help implement process improvements to optimize departmental operations and turnaround times.

  • Support educational and safety programs related to diagnostic imaging.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate written and electronic documentation of procedures, test results, and quality control data.

  • Ensure timely communication of critical imaging results to appropriate clinical personnel.

  • Liaise with patients to explain procedures and obtain informed consent as necessary.

  • Verify patient data and examination orders prior to performing imaging.

  • Coordinate patient scheduling and logistics to maintain workflow efficiency.

  • Uphold hospital values and policies, including confidentiality and inclusivity.

  • Perform additional duties related to diagnostic imaging technical support as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized radiography or medical radiation technology program (CT certification required).

  • Postgraduate courses in the assigned area preferred.

  • Minimum 4 years recent experience in diagnostic imaging or related technical specialty.

  • Registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) required.

  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of imaging procedures, equipment, and regulatory standards.

  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced clinical environment.

  • Client service orientation with respect for diversity and teamwork.

  • Proven ability to build effective interpersonal relationships and collaborate across teams.

Work Schedule:

Currently day shifts, 8 hours including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change based on operational needs).
