Description:

NBCUniversal is seeking a Principal UI/UX Technical Designer to lead the design and implementation of elegant, high-performing, and player-focused user interfaces using Unreal Engine 5+.
This role combines UX strategy, UI aesthetics, and hands-on technical implementation to deliver world-class gaming experiences.
The designer will establish scalable UI systems, craft intuitive user flows, and ensure usability, accessibility, and performance across multiple platforms including PC and console.
The position involves close collaboration with engineers, artists, and gameplay designers to align UI/UX elements with both narrative and gameplay goals, while mentoring junior designers and defining best practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design UX wireframes, player flows, and interactive layouts in Figma.

  • Establish and implement UI visual direction, style guides, and mockups.

  • Translate design assets into responsive, functional UI in Unreal Engine 5+ (UMG/Slate, Common UI).

  • Build scalable UI architecture and reusable widget libraries.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with gameplay and narrative objectives.

  • Define and maintain UI technical workflow best practices.

  • Deliver optimized, performance-aware UI for PC and console platforms.

  • Mentor and onboard future UI/UX designers.

  • Maintain strong focus on usability, accessibility, and responsiveness.

  • Simplify complex systems into intuitive, player-friendly interfaces.


Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in game development specializing in UI/UX design and implementation.

  • Deep knowledge of Unreal Engine 5+ (UMG/Slate, Common UI).

  • Strong proficiency with Figma for wireframes, layouts, and interactions.

  • Proven ability to create performant, modular UI systems.

  • Demonstrated experience with UI art mockups and style guide creation.

  • Solid understanding of usability principles and accessibility standards.


Desired Characteristics:

  • Leadership or mentorship experience within UI/UX teams.

  • Familiarity with motion design, UI animation, and material editor.

  • Knowledge of localization pipelines, input mapping, and platform certification requirements.

  • Proven experience shipping UI on both PC and console.

  • Exposure to user research, testing, and feedback-driven iteration.


Additional Requirements:

  • Hybrid role: minimum 3 days per week in Montreal office.

  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to Montreal, Canada.
