As a Tax Operations Specialist for Canada, you will oversee and manage all statutory payroll tax remittances, filings, and compliance requirements for Deel’s Employer of Record (EOR) and Global Payroll (GP) business in Canada. You will ensure compliance with federal and provincial tax authorities, manage high-value remittance payments, and prevent costly penalties. This role is critical to Deel’s ability to transition payroll operations in-house, integrate acquisitions, and expand its GP service offerings.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the filing and remittance of statutory payroll taxes for over 250 Canadian payroll entities (federal and provincial).
Oversee over $500M in annual remittance payments to Canadian tax authorities.
Prepare, issue, and amend T4 and RL-1 slips.
Act as an L2 payroll tax representative with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Revenue Québec.
Resolve tax notices for Deel’s global payroll clients promptly.
Ensure compliance to avoid significant penalties for late or incorrect remittances.
Support audits by Canadian tax authorities.
Work directly with clients to address payroll tax-related inquiries.
Oversee payroll tax operations for multiple provincial health tax, workers’ compensation, and Québec authorities.
Authorities Overseen Include:
Federal & Québec: CRA, Revenu Québec, CNESST, Retraite Québec, CPMT.
Provincial Health Tax Authorities: Ontario Ministry of Finance, BC Ministry of Finance (eTaxBC), Manitoba Finance – Taxation Division, Newfoundland Dept. of Finance, and others.
Provincial Workers’ Compensation Authorities: WSIB, WorkSafeBC, WCB of Manitoba, WorkplaceNL, and others across all provinces/territories.
Qualifications:
2+ years in payroll tax resolution.
2+ years in payroll processing (service bureau environment).
Knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation (federal, provincial, territorial).
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
FPC or similar designation an asset.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
