Mackenzie Health, a leading healthcare provider serving more than half a million residents across York Region, is seeking Surgical Assist Physicians to join its growing medical team. With two state-of-the-art hospital sites – Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital – this is an exciting opportunity for physicians who want to contribute to patient care excellence, supplement their income, and remain closely connected with hospital practice.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the Operating Room for elective surgical cases across multiple specialties, including:

  • General Surgery

  • Orthopedics

  • Plastics

  • Obstetrics and Gynecology

  • Urology

  • Otolaryngology (ENT)

• Apply to the Department of Family Practice for Associate Active privileges.

• Provide on-call coverage for at least one or more 24-hour call period per month (flexible scheduling possible, can be divided).

• Maintain proximity within 20 minutes’ drive of the hospital during on-call periods.

• Collaborate with surgeons and healthcare staff to ensure patient-centered, safe, and efficient surgical care.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting.

• Commitment to patient care and safety, demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and respect.

• Ability to handle the physical and cognitive demands of surgical assisting.

Education & Certification Requirements:

• Medical Degree recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).

• Postgraduate training in Family Practice Medicine (CCFP).

• Active membership and good standing with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) or equivalent.

• Membership with the Ontario Medical Association (OMA).
