Summer Recreation Worker

 

Description:

Hull Services is actively seeking two Summer Recreation Workers to assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing recreational programs for adolescents. The role involves organizing events, supervising youth work experiences, and contributing to the success of summer programs. This is an exciting opportunity for students passionate about recreation, social work, and community engagement to develop leadership skills while making a meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities:

🎯 Program Planning & Coordination

  • Lead and organize recreational events and activities for adolescents.
  • Provide direct services in planning and executing specialized recreation programs.
  • Assist in coordinating campus and community-based recreational initiatives.

👩‍🏫 Youth Development & Supervision

  • Establish and supervise work experiences for adolescents.
  • Provide training in job readiness skills to prepare youth for future employment.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with staff, children, and stakeholders.

📊 Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in the evaluation of summer programs to improve effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the Recreation Worker III and team members to enhance recreational services.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education & Experience:

  • Formal education in human services (asset but not mandatory).
  • Experience or certification in outdoor pursuits, physical recreation, or vocational experience preferred.

Technical & Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to initiate activities and work independently while functioning in a team environment.
  • Cross-cultural competence with knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and its goals.

Additional Requirements:

  • Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) (or in process before employment).
  • Child Intervention Record Check (to be completed upon hiring).
  • Valid driver’s license (preferred, must be 21+ with 3 years driving experience for Agency vehicles).
  • ASIST, First Aid, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, and CYCAA Certification (considered an asset).

🚀 Eligibility for Canada Summer Jobs Program:

  • Age 19-30, with Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or Refugee Protection Status.
  • Confirmation of enrollment in post-secondary studies for Fall 2025.

Working Conditions:

📅 Start Date: May 26, 2025
📅 End Date: August 30, 2025
💰 Hourly Pay: $19.00 (Position subject to government funding approval)
