Description:
Nordic Structures, a recognized leader in engineered wood solutions, is seeking a Structural Engineer / Project Manager to join its Montreal team. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing all engineering services defined in contractual documents, while contributing expertise in structural wood engineering and steel connections. This is a challenging role for a professional with strong technical knowledge and proven project management experience.
The role involves collaborating with architects, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to design and deliver complex projects, primarily in mass timber construction. The engineer will take part in design assistance or full design-build projects, ensuring quality, efficiency, safety, and compliance with building codes and client objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and oversee all services defined in contractual project documents.
Provide structural engineering input for wood structures and steel connections.
Design structural assemblies, considering performance, fire resistance, geometry, aesthetics, manufacturability, and installation methods.
Review structural drawings, shop drawings, assembly diagrams, 3D models, and construction documents.
Manage projects from fabrication through installation, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
Define deliverables, schedule deliveries in coordination with installation, and participate in coordination meetings.
Manage risks, respond to RFIs, and oversee administrative documentation such as change orders and issued drawings.
Conduct partial supervision and site monitoring during construction phases.
Support clients and external engineering partners through design-assist services (majority of projects).
In design-build projects, carry out calculations and analysis of structural loads, lateral forces, and stability, ensuring compliance with building codes.
Collaborate directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other engineers during project design.
Manage and implement multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
Candidate Profile:
University degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in structural engineering and project management.
Strong technical expertise in structural design and wood construction.
Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Bilingual proficiency in French and English (spoken and written).
Demonstrates rigor, attention to detail, initiative, and agility in problem-solving.
Strong teamwork skills combined with autonomy and the ability to thrive under pressure.
