Staff Software Engineer

Description:

The Staff Software Engineer will develop microservices and web applications for Wiser’s data collection and matching platforms, supporting over 200 million transactions per day. This role involves high-scale distributed system design, data integration, and leadership in modern software development practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver high-value software solutions efficiently and incrementally.

• Maintain high-quality code standards and improve the codebase.

• Collaborate across product, architecture, data science, and infrastructure teams.

• Communicate effectively from executives to developers.

• Introduce innovative approaches to system design, optimization, and integration.

• Participate in on-call rotations to respond to critical system issues.

Technologies / Tools:

• Languages: Python, NodeJS/NestJS/TypeScript, React/Redux, Java, GraphQL

• Infrastructure: AWS, DBT, Docker, Kubernetes, Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, Terraform, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Prisma

• Databases: MongoDB, Postgres, MySQL, Trino, Iceberg, Redis, Memcached

• Streaming/Queuing: Kafka, NATS, RabbitMQ, Keda

Qualifications:

• BS in Computer Science or related technical field.

• 12+ years in software engineering with prior Principal/Staff Engineer or senior technical leadership experience.

• Strong coding background across multiple languages; front-end and server-side.

• Experience with high-scale, complex distributed systems.

• Proficient with Linux, cloud computing (AWS), and containerization.

• Strong system design, data modeling, and business process understanding.

• Ability to guide and coach engineering teams on software best practices.

• Experience with both relational and unstructured data.

• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage priorities across multiple delivery teams and time zones.
