Description:
Forter is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Growth Engineering to lead the technical strategy and architecture of the merchant Onboarding Experience platform. The role focuses on reducing integration time, improving developer experience, and accelerating time-to-revenue for Forter’s clients. The engineer will work cross-functionally with Go-to-Market, R&D, Implementation, Customer Success, Support, Analytics, and Sales teams to identify friction points, propose and drive initiatives, and ensure scalable, reusable platform capabilities.
As Forter’s most senior engineer in North America, the role includes mentoring other engineers, defining technical vision, and ensuring the platform meets strategic business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead high-impact onboarding initiatives: SDKs, schema-aware mapping automation, Integration Center enhancements, and self-serve validation pipelines.
Architect and evolve a multi-tenant onboarding platform supporting vertical-specific schemas while keeping it simple for merchants’ developers.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate real-world pain points into platform capabilities.
Mentor North America-based engineers via design reviews, ADRs, and architecture sessions.
Drive technical vision and roadmap, supporting Forter’s strategic goals of revenue growth and time-to-revenue acceleration.
Champion developer experience: clear documentation, open-source examples, automated tests, and smooth releases.
Qualifications:
8+ years building production systems and developer-facing platforms.
2+ years experience at Staff-level or equivalent, owning architecture and cross-functional initiatives.
Hands-on experience with Node.js/Python and AWS-based architectures.
Experience shipping SDKs, APIs, or tooling relied upon by external engineers.
Strong business-impact mindset: measure success via time-to-integration and revenue acceleration.
Excellent communication and influence skills to translate between technical, product, and commercial languages.
Self-directed and entrepreneurial: proactively identify problems, align stakeholders, and drive results.
Desired Characteristics:
Experience with schema-on-read/data-model variation challenges.
Background in partner, solutions, or developer advocacy engineering.
Experience with eCommerce platforms and merchant data flows.
Exposure to payments infrastructure (Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, Worldpay).
