Sonographer

Description:

The Sonographer is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations while ensuring exceptional patient care and safety. Working under the direction of the Diagnostic Imaging Manager, the Sonographer plays a vital role in obtaining accurate diagnostic images, maintaining imaging standards, and supporting timely patient diagnosis and treatment in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Previous experience with Cerner and electronic health record (EHR) systems is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols.
• Prepare, position, and monitor patients throughout imaging procedures.
• Obtain high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by radiologists and physicians.
• Explain procedures to patients and address questions or concerns to ensure comfort and cooperation.
• Maintain accurate patient records, imaging documentation, and reports within Cerner and imaging information systems.
• Ensure compliance with imaging protocols, infection control standards, and patient safety requirements.
• Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment and report equipment issues as required.
• Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support quality patient care.
• Prioritize workload effectively while managing routine, urgent, and emergency examinations.
• Participate in quality assurance activities and departmental initiatives.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
• Current registration with the appropriate regulatory body.
• Minimum one (1) year of recent sonography experience preferred.
• Mandatory experience with Cerner and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Experience performing abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, vascular, or general ultrasound examinations.
• Strong knowledge of ultrasound procedures, patient care, and safety standards.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
