Description:

Airbus, through its subsidiary NAVBLUE, Inc., is seeking a Software Engineering Manager (Chapter Lead) to lead and inspire its software development teams in Waterloo, ON. NAVBLUE is a global leader in Flight Operations & Air Traffic Management solutions, serving over 500 customers worldwide, and is fully owned by Airbus. This role is central to ensuring NAVBLUE’s software products meet the highest standards of innovation, quality, and reliability required in aviation, while also shaping the company’s future development practices.

In this leadership role, you will be responsible for defining and implementing best practices, policies, and procedures for software engineering within the organization. You will work closely with other managers and cross-functional teams to ensure engineering goals are aligned with Airbus’ strategic objectives, while maintaining a strong customer-centric approach. You will drive improvements in software factory operations, close gaps in engineering practices, and support continuous evolution of the development process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and apply software development practices, procedures, and policies across teams.

  • Align engineering initiatives with company-wide strategic goals and ensure clear understanding among teams.

  • Identify gaps in engineering processes and lead efforts to close them.

  • Lead, coach, and provide career development support to software engineers, holding them accountable for results.

  • Collaborate with other software factory managers to deliver on shared objectives and organizational goals.

  • Oversee quality assurance in deliverables, ensuring high standards of safety and efficiency in aviation solutions.

  • Manage performance and professional growth of team members, fostering a culture of accountability, motivation, and innovation.

  • Provide technical direction, influence, and consensus-building to ensure successful delivery of projects.

  • Act as a strategic thinker, anticipating future engineering needs and skill requirements to remain competitive in aviation technology.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (or equivalent).

  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in software design and development.

  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in managing software developers.

  • Strong technical expertise in .Net, C++, modern front-end technologies, and AWS.

  • Knowledge of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) methodologies.

  • Ability to lead and motivate teams, provide constructive feedback, and foster collaborative problem-solving.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders.

  • Strategic mindset with customer-centric thinking and ability to anticipate future industry challenges.
