The company is seeking a Software Developer – Backend (Hybrid) to join its innovative team in Toronto, Ontario. Key Responsibilities:

• Build, scale, document, and maintain both new and existing pennylane.ai ecosystem products.

• Design, implement, and maintain a robust set of APIs used by internal teams and external services.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers and UI/UX designers, to advance the product roadmap and deliver top-tier user experiences.

• Participate in the software design process, ensuring that all product requirements are technically sound and feasible.

• Maintain high code quality by ensuring comprehensive automated test coverage and participating actively in code reviews.

• Manage DevOps tasks, such as maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions.

• Explore, evaluate, and integrate new tools and technologies to improve backend performance and reliability.

• Contribute to Xanadu’s engineering culture of innovation, learning, and excellence.

Tech Stack and Tools:

• Languages: Python (primary), with exposure to other modern languages as needed.

• Databases: PostgreSQL, SQL.

• DevOps Tools: Docker, Terraform, GitHub Actions, AWS, and Google Cloud.

• Web & API Technologies: GraphQL, RESTful APIs.

• Infrastructure: Infrastructure-as-code principles and containerization for scalable deployment.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.

• Minimum 3+ years of professional software development experience.

• Proficiency in Python and strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles.

• Expertise in PostgreSQL/SQL and database management.

• Experience deploying infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform or equivalent.

• Practical experience using Docker and deploying applications on AWS or Google Cloud.

• Strong problem-solving skills with a product-focused mindset.

• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

• Proven ability to work effectively in fast-paced, agile environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in technical leadership or mentoring other developers.

• Familiarity with GraphQL and experience designing scalable APIs.

• Hands-on experience developing large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems.

• Knowledge of front-end frameworks such as React and Next.js is a plus.

• Passion for learning emerging technologies and continuously improving development processes.
